SEALANTS

Sealants are a gentle and preventive way of protecting a tooth. A bonded resin (sealant) is easily place into the naturally occurring narrow grooves and pits of a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned. These grooves and pits are susceptible to decay and could require fillings in the future. A licensed dental staff member will brush the sealant into these grooves and pits creating a smooth surface that is easily cleaned.

NON-SURGICAL GUM TREATMENTS

The gums, ligaments, root, and bone around a tooth are referred to collectively as the periodontium and form the foundation for teeth. When the periodontium is unhealthy, the teeth are compromised. Signs of unhealthy periodontium (gum disease) may include halitosis (bad breath), gums that are red, bleed easily and are pulling away (recession), mobility, and changes in the position or bite of the teeth.
Periodontal disease can be treated non surgically with deep cleanings, under local anesthesia. This treatment is referred to as scaling and root planing and is done in sextants, quadrants or half mouth sections. Local antibiotic agents could be applied to more diseased areas. The teeth and periodontium will be re-evaluated in one month for signs of healing. Unresolved areas could require further treatment including referral to a periodontist.

Periodontal disease is also associated with increase risk of heart disease. Early detection, treatment, and prevention of periodontal disease is essential for your overall health.

X-RAYS

X-rays are a necessary tool in diagnosing dental disease. They enable the doctors to see the entire tooth and surrounding structures. The frequency of dental x-rays is tailored to each patient’s individual dental history.

We use digital radiography which allows us to take X-rays with less radiation then conventional X-rays. Coupled with computer monitoring, digital x-ray technology allows us to enhance the images for better diagnosis of any dental concerns.
